Porto is built in levels. The Ribeira sits at the water, the Sé and the Clérigos tower stand above it, and getting between them means stairs, alleys and sudden viewpoints. A first walk linking the riverfront to the Baixa gives you that vertical layout, which no map conveys. Later you can pick a subject: tiled façades and granite churches for architecture or religion, Bolhão and Cedofeita for neighbourhood life, the cellars across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia for food and wine. Photo themes chase the light on the Dom Luís I bridge, and ghost routes take the lanes after dark.
