Berlin is too spread out for one loop to do the job. A first walk usually follows the historic spine from the Brandenburg Gate along Unter den Linden to Museum Island, which sorts the centre into something you can navigate alone afterwards. Beyond that the city divides by subject: the Third Reich and the divided decades around Potsdamer Platz and Bernauer Strasse, Jewish Berlin in the Scheunenviertel, street art and hidden courtyards in Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain, architecture wherever East and West rebuilt the same problem differently.
